Review of My Vinyasa Practice (MVP) Online Teacher Training

Review of My Vinyasa Practice MVP Online Yoga Teacher Training program. Is MVP TT legit? Should you sign up for it? How long does it take?

Here is my honest review of the My Vinyasa Practice (MVP) Teacher Training. First off (and a big reason for this post) when I saw this training it seemed fake. So I searched and tried to find reviews on it at the time, but I came up with very little. MVP was (and is) accredited with Yoga Alliance, which was important to me. I had never thought of doing online teacher training. Would it be as good as in person? Would I just be buying a certificate without actually learning anything? The cost was so much lower than other training. What was the catch? I emailed them to find out if the price was indeed correct since it was 1/8th of the cost of the one I was planning on attending.

In 2019 I did a certificate Yoga Sculpt training with CorePower Yoga. The way things worked at that time was that to teach there, you needed to go through their training and then go on to a separate training called extensions.

Is My Vinyasa Practice legit?

My Vinyasa Practice has Yoga Alliance-approved yoga teacher training for both in-person and online. Yoga Alliance started approving online teacher training programs during 2020 when much of the world went on lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As long as you start the program by December 31, 2021. Is expected to extend this out through 2022 lines is not really a company, they are kind of the only association that is collectively acknowledged in the U.S. Weekly, it’s not required to have a yoga loft alliance training to teach yoga, but many employers consider it a requirement for employment.

How long does it take to complete the course?

200 hours might feel like a long time because it is!  Some programs offer an intensive week to teach 200 hours of yoga teacher training certification, while others take months to complete. The interesting thing about this online yoga teacher training offered by My Vinyasa Practice is that you go at your own pace. I suppose a very industrious person could rush through it, but taking everything at a slower pace lets you, as a student, fully integrate the teachings into your life. I did my training from November 2020 through March 2020, Which ended up being about 4 1/2 months long. It felt like a good amount of time without getting burned out, but not that I gave myself very few breaks to keep the pace up.

Review of My Vinyasa Practice Teacher Training

Once you pay for the training, you get access to the content in an online program called teachable. They have an app, but I suggest doing it online because the app didn’t show all of the videos. Each section is laid out like a chapter with videos and readings. Honestly, I was surprised by how good the content was. After previously having done a Yoga Sculpt Teacher Training with CorePower Yoga and enjoying it a great deal, I didn’t expect a lot from a small studio in Austin, Texas doing training online. It took a while to get the feel for learning online as opposed to in-person teaching. I spread the videos out over a week or two for each of the eight sections. The videos were informative and it was nice to go at my own pace. I did struggle a bit because many of the concepts were new. MVP (My Vinyasa Practice) allows a mentor teacher to be assigned (but they call it something different). I asked mine several questions and they were pretty helpful. They do have review sessions set up regularly to meet with someone and go over the content of each chapter. I attended three of these and found them very valuable. Also it was fun because the group was small and I was able to meet a few other people going into the training with me.

One of the requirements aside from the basic training in teachable, is to either watch or attend the live lectures. These were absolutely fantastic, so much so that I have joined a few even after my training hours were fulfilled. Every Saturday and Sunday morning they host different topics and have different lead trainers teaching All of the lead teachers were knowledgeable and kind. The community that MVP attracts to its training is the most diverse yoga community I have encountered to date.

How is the instructor, Michelle Young?

“When the student is ready the teacher will appear”.

Tao Te Ching

Michelle is passionate about yoga and about teaching. She has a background in curriculum development and it shows. Her course is comprehensive.

Michelle’s recorded lectures are very good and filled with great information. Where I think she shines through is her live lectures.

What does the training consist of? What can I expect?

  • Complete online prerecorded content broke up into eight sections filled with reading and videos that you go through on the teachable platform.
  • Suggested reading, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and Light on Yoga.
  • Complete 48-hoursof Learning Lab – which can be live lectures that you watch on zoom in real time or later recorded.
  • Complete 48 hours of Personal Practice/Community Involvement which counts as taking yoga classes or one of their book club or movie night events.
  • During the course, you will record and teach a 10-20 minute class.
  • For the final, you will record, teach a 60 minute class.
  • At the very end there is a final, which you must pass by 80%. If you don’t pass the first time though, you can retake the test.
